Phil Day at Multihull Yacht Sales, Brisbane, is Corsair Marine’s Australia / New Zealand Dealer and last month, he took delivery of his first Dash 750.
The Dash 750 arrived in one 40ft container. Phil unloaded it by himself and with the assistance of Cameron Lawn, the beams and floats were connected within just 3 hours.
The next day saw the two of them putting on the nets, winching the trailer under the boat, placing the mast on top of the boat and securing the load ready for it to be towed 1,000km south for the Sydney International Boat Show which was to commence the following week from 30 July – 3 August 2009.
Phil departed Brisbane on the Sunday morning and had the boat at Manly boat ramp, just inside Sydney Heads, on Monday mid-morning. David Renouf (Mr Corsair 50) met up with Phil to help set up the Dash for its first sail. In no time at all, the mast was raised and the boat was launched into the beautiful clear waters of Sydney Harbour with Phil on board by himself.
From shore, David yelled out, “I’ll see you at the Boat Show in one hour”.
“What?!” came Phil’s surprised yelp. “Where do I go? How do I find Darling Harbour? Are there any hazards on Sydney Harbour?” screeched Phil who has never sailed on this stretch of water and was trying to do the first first test and commissioning sail, single handed, without an autopilot!
Walking off, Dave yelled back, “Head south, turn left when you see Sydney Harbour Bridge, go under the Bridge, turn left and you’re there!”
“What about rocks and hazards?” continued Phil.
“You’ll be right, mate. Any rocks will have sticks and markers”.
According to Phil, “What a sail! It was a picture perfect day with the magnificent back drop of the cliffs and sandy bays. And, I had the added bonus of sailing past Sydney’s iconic land marks including the Opera house and the Harbour Bridge.
“The Dash sailed perfectly up the Harbour, hard on the breeze into a light Westerly. No hic-ups or problems on this maiden voyage. The Dash sails high and the new higher volume floats were fantastic; not as much heel and it certainly didn’t dip as much with the gusts.
“Ten out of ten for this new design”, concluded Phil Day.

Trickle on Down! The America's Cup (Jan 05, 2007) John Kolius, 5 times America's Cup sailor (including 3 times as skipper), previews the America's Cup which will be contested by two multihulls. John warns that both boats risk catastrophic failure but the flow on benefits to the broader multihull community will impact our sport more than ever before.
