2012 US Corsair Nationals and Rendezvous opens to more owners

The 2012 US Corsair Nationals and Rendezvous

The 2012 US Corsair Nationals and Rendezvous is designed to recognise, celebrate and thank all those people who have supported Corsair Marine over the years. By moving it around the country, it will open it up to more Corsair owners which is entirely consistent with Corsair's aim of creating further choices; closer families and friends.

On 16 September 2011, this website announced that the 2012 US Corsair Nationals & Rendezvous (will be) hosted by the Screwpile Regatta from 15-17 July at Solomons, Maryland in the USA. Since then, there seems to have been some confusion on the internet forums as to the eligibility of trimarans and the merits of hosting such an event.

Corsair Marine has stated that the Corsair Nationals and Rendezvous is open to all Corsair-built trimarans that wish to race or cruise. Given Corsair Marine was established back in 1984, it is not surprising that the list of Corsair-built trimarans is quite extensive.

The list of Corsair-built trimarans:

The list of eligible, Corsair-built, trimarans includes the: Sprint 750 MK I / MK II, C24, DASH 750, C28, C31, C36, C37, F-27, F24 MK I / MK II, F-28,and  F-31.

Is the Corsair Marine Nationals and Rendezvous "inclusive" or "exclusive"?

Some people have suggested that Corsair Marine is not being "inclusive" by hosting an event purely for Corsair-built trimarans. In response, it should be noted that Corsair Marine has:

  • Been a sponsor of the Trimarans National event hosted by the Fort Walton Yacht Club for a number of years - including the last two which were during the depths of the global financial crisis.
  • Said that it is keen to continue supporting such events where possible. We understand that there will be a "trimarans showdown" at the FWYC next April and, as with previous years, we look forward to the organisers sending us a sponsorship proposal.
  • Stated that the Corsair Marine Nationals and Rendezvous is an additional event on the sailing calendar. It does not replace any other event; rather, it complements the existing events. It is consistent with Corsair Marine's objective to create further choices (not different choices); closer families and friends.

Why has Corsair Marine chosen to create an event purely for Corsair-built trimarans?

  • We believe that Fort Walton is an excellent venue to hold sailing events - and that is one of the reasons why we would like to continue our association. However, Corsair Marine also recognises that we have an army of owners who live and sail far away from Florida. If we are only ever associated with events in the south east, we are not being "inclusive" of our owners who live in other corners of the US. To be a truly representative Nationals and Rendezvous, we need to move the event around the country so that our all our owners feel a sense of ownership.
  • Corsair Marine would like to recognise, celebrate and thank all those people who have supported our company since the beginning back in 1984.
  • To properly recognise, celebrate and thank all those owners, we will host an event that combines the Nationals with the Rendezvous.Cruising Corsairs are actively encouraged to join the racing Corsairs. They are all very much part of the Corsair Community and we are keen to build upon the great successes of the Trans Tahoe and Harmonic Convergence held each year.

Again, Corsair Marine embraces the idea of all forms of events that support trimaran racing and cruising. We also embrace the idea of supporting events that recognise those wonderful people who have supported our company so loyally over the years.

For owners of Corsair-built and non Corsair-built trimarans alike, not only is there a lot of blue water out there, there's also a lot of blue sky.
