Corsair 24 Class to race in San Francisco Bay NOOD Regatta, 25-26 June 2011

C24, Origami at last year's San Francisco Bay NOOD Regatta

Ross Stein, NOOD Class wrangler and class co-officer, as well as the owner of the C24 Origami, reports on this year's San Francisco Bay NOOD Regatta which will be held from 25-26 June 2011.

The Corsair 24 class has been officially added to the roster of 21 classes sailing in the 2011 NOOD Regatta on 25-26 June, hosted by St. Francis Yacht Club and administered by Sailing World & US Sailing.

We did it last year and it was fantastic. Committed boats for 2011 include Gaijin (Benicia), Flash (Benicia), Wings (Benicia), Origami (Sausalito), Blown Away (San Diego), Nowhere Fast (Colorado), Rocinante (South Lake Tahoe). In addition, Emma Jean (Alameda) and xXx (Alameda) are sorely tempted and we hope will make the plunge. There is also a local Corsair 24 available for lease (contact Corsair Marine's Dealer, Gary Helms, from Helms Yacht Sales). This will be the West Coast Championship of the Corsair 24s.

This is a Grand Prix race that promises good breezes on the gorgeous Central Bay, perfectly-set square courses with windward offset marks and leeward gates, expert race committees (they even made a Corsair 24 flag just to hoist for our starts), and a fleet of chase boats. Not only that, but Ed Straub will be videoing the regatta from the wing of Rocinante. It's a great weekend, with perhaps three short races each day followed by the St Francis Yacht Club's festivities. We will race as a class without handicaps; both Corsair and Farrier-type dagger rudders are class legal.

Registration is $110, plus you need to join US Sailing ($60) if you are not a member.

Anyone who raced it last year will tell you that you what you receive in swag, food and drink is more than you shell out in entry fees.

The entry includes the Saturday night banquet at StFYC and the awards party Sunday afternoon, with food and drinks.

One also gets a NOOD rucksack or tote bag with West Marine, Sperry Topsider, and other discount chits inside that last year had values of $50-$75.

Frankly, just getting inside StFYC is worth the detour.

The NorCal Corsair 24 fleet can help with berthing, hoists, ramps, trailer stowage, accommodations, and local knowledge.
